Bread and Circuses | Iran Tries to Pacify Protest with ‘Lord of the Rings’ Trilogy

Via Slashdot: Iranian state television's Channel Two is playing a Lord of the Rings marathon in an attempt to keep people inside watching hobbits and not protesting in the streets. I wonder if there's a hidden, symbolic meaning to the Iranian government selecting that trilogy. Or, maybe the translation provided will provide one.
